Get Wedding Ready Skin: Advice From A Wedding Make up Artist

Every single bride I work with asks me the questions ‘how can I get wedding ready skin?’

It’s not surprising, on your wedding day all eyes will be on you, not to mention the photographs and video that will live on past the day. And more importantly, you want to feel your very best on your big day.

As a wedding make-up artist with many years’ experience, I feel I’m well qualified to give you the best advice on looking after your skin on the build-up to your Wedding Day.

1. Facials

Have facials regularly for at least three months before your wedding day (longer if possible) ideally, I’d recommend regular facials for 6 months – 1 year, to get really great skin.

Having a facial every four weeks allows you time to address skin concerns and ensure radiant results.

2. Your home skin care routine.

Nail your skincare routine.  Take advice from a facialist and invest time in your skincare at home. If you book me as your wedding make up artist I will help you put together an individual skincare routine with recommended products, because every bride is an individual.

But this advice will help every skin type:

Make sure you have a good cleansing routine morning and night.

Remove make up, sunscreen and pollution from your day.

Facial wipes are always a no unless they are a last resort, they cause skin irritation and smear make up and oil across the surface of the skin without thoroughly cleansing.

Avoid hot and cold water, use warm instead, cold water is less effective at removing oil and hot can cause dry skin and irritation.

Pat the skin dry, don’t rub it.

Make sure you have a good exfoliation routine as part of your skin care to remove the dead skin and let the products you spent money on like serums and moisturisers really take effect.

3. The lead up to your Wedding Day.

In the days leading up to your Wedding avoid aggressive treatments like peels.

Do not try anything new!!

Feed the skin from within, remember you are what you eat.

Flush out toxins with water, boost hydration in the lead up to your wedding day.

Avoid alcohol (sorry), especially the night before your wedding.

Avoid salty food the night before your wedding, this will aid a good night’s sleep.

Give yourself a facial massage the night before to stimulate blood flow to the face and use a mask (one that you’ve tried before) so your skin will be ready for makeup in the morning.

4. Talk to the pros

Don’t self-diagnose or use a mixology of facial products without first seeking professional advice. Speak to the pros to get the right skin care and facial routine for you leading up to your wedding.

Nothing is more wonderful than a good deep facial massage, improving circulation, stimulating lymphatic drainage and stimulating muscles giving you a glow no cream can.

Remember:
Most products take 6 to 8 weeks to start showing results so stick with them (unless you have a definite reaction.)
If you keep chopping and changing it won’t help with the skin getting used to something or improve.
Handy tip:

Pay attention to packaging. If the lid comes off, air gets into the product and it will become less affective, concentrate on packaging that is functional, airless and sealed in, keeping active products fresh.
